Happy 2017 ~ click here to comment January 3, 2017 10:39
And just like that it’s 2017. Most of us are back to work, back to school and officially kicking off the year. I don’t really make New Year Resolutions, but I do like to reflect upon the past year (not too long) and think about what I would like to accomplish moving forward into the New. January 01 is like a reset for the adventures and for the things that will happen this coming year.
What is in store for The Crafty Jackalope? 2017 will be defined by 3 words; TEACHING, DESIGN, FOCUS.
TEACHING: I have a lot of classes lined up at Baaad Anna’s this coming winter/spring, teaching knitting to beginners and the kids. I will also be at the local Elementary schools teaching the noon hour knitting classes, along with private instruction & knit cafes.
FOCUS: With all the distractions in this world, it is more important than ever to find focus; to follow through on ideas, to find peace in unplugging if not for a few hours a day to dig deep into a project. Don’t worry, I will still be posting and blogging, FBing, Tweeting, IGing… but I will find those times each day to unplug.
2017 is going to be crafty and makerly. What do you want to make this year? Want do you want to see? Please tell me. And, I know a lot of you Cast On during the Holidays and New Year; I would love to hear about what you are making!
Happy Holidays from The Crafty Jackalope ~ click here to comment December 24, 2016 14:30
Happy Holidays Everyone! Wishing you and your friends and families a Wonderful Sparkly Holiday Season! We had such a great 2016, I can't wait to see where we go and what we do for 2017! I hope to keep building upon this wonderful crafty, knitterly community designing more and teaching more!
Here is a little Christmas Eve poem I wrote last year, enjoy!
Twas the night before Christmas,
Everyone was knitting, even the mouse.
The pressure was on, finishing gifts was the goal,
nobody wants a stocking full of coal!
The yarn was flailing, the cat was wailing
“my fur needs grooming…” but time was looming….
Are the presents made? Are the presents wrapped?
The needles clicked, and tippitty tapped.
But then it sparked, a realization that glowed,
the gift of craft was bestowed.
In this moment, the greatest present was had…
knitting with friends and family, this wasn’t so bad.
Gather around, come from far and near,
let’s craft together this coming year!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my knitters and crafters!
This is from our friends at Mochimochiland, we have enjoyed all the little motion stop animations all year-round!
Be safe & warm everyone! Merry Christmas! xoxo

Happy #TCJ Monday
First of all, thank you for all your comments in the previous post. I love hearing about the yarn colors that inspire and make you happy, and of course the lovely comments about the newest pattern, Peppercorn Pullover, are always heart warming! The pullover comes in 2 sizes S/M & L/XL, I am currently knitting the L/XL version in color Powder Green. It is an amazing dusty-like deep forest green. The other day I was on the North Shore and I noticed, my pullover matched the trees! #nature
There is still time to enter. Contest ends Tuesday November 08th 11:59pm PST. Click here to enter the WOOL AND THE GANG #giveaway. The prize: 4 balls of WATG Take Care Mohair in the color of your choice to make the TCJ Peppercorn Pullover!
I love to keep this blog and all social media for TCJ political free. Politics can be tricky, everyone has their own strong opinion and I like to keep TCJ in a neutral zone, inspiring you all to make and create on a positive platform; however, with the US election looming, it's simply too big to sit in silence. A Polish-American artist named Olek has inspired me to speak up!
Look what Olek made! This handmade crochet blanket took 794,880 stitches to make, and in just 4 weeks Olek made a huge impact! What an accomplishment. It makes me so proud that craft, art and making can make such big statements and truly create change; look at the community we are part of! I am not shy to say I support Hilary, she has done some amazing things all throughout her career. She is not the 'alternative' vote, she is my first choice. #ImWithHer
If anything, today I encouraging everyone, who can, VOTE. You are not too small to make a difference; Olek is a great reminder of this and can inspire us all!

Halloween, teaching and a giveaway this week ~ click here to comment October 31, 2016 14:58
Happy #TCJMonday and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I taught the kids to knit today during the Noon Hour Lunch Program at a local elementary school and they were all dressed up and cute as can be! One was a fairy, another was a hotdog, there was a super girl, zombie and a minion.... The group is 8, 8 years old and I have 36 minutes once a week to teach them to knit. These kids are amazingly focused (maybe a bit less today...candy) and catching on and becoming little knitters! Heart warming.
Just a quick announcement: this week there will be another GIVEAWAY!!! So check back to get your name in the draw!
more projects for the holidays ~ click here to comment October 24, 2016 16:37
It feels like a slow Monday, but I have been running around the city, teaching, picking up supplies and & making deliveries. Now I am hoping to get some knitting accomplished for the giveaway next week... wink wink nudge nudge!
Also, we have been, slowly but surely, adding more pre-knit samples for sale in the Handmade sample sale section on the website. We have more sweaters and accessories going up daily, so check back often!
And, if you want to make something special for the Holiday season, we just put up a few Paris Lights beaded necklace/bracelet kits. For me, it takes about an hour to thread the beads onto the silk and another hour to knit! If there is a color you want and don't see, send me an email and I can make up a custom color just for you!
new projects, new podcasts, new yarn, new kits ~ click here to comment October 17, 2016 07:00
It's pretty stormy, wet and windy here in Vancouver, BC Canada, and all I can think about is hunkering down on my couch, with my cat, my hubby, my knitting, a cup of coffee and a good movie!
If you're in the mood to knit, I am about to bombarded with new project ideas! This post is long: I have 2 podcast recommendations, which I am a guest on, and a ton of new knit kits to show you!
There is a new podcast out called New To Knitting hosted by Kayleigh and her husband, they chat and explore knitting through the eyes of the novice knitter. I am excited to announce that I am a guest on this weeks episode 005! You can read more about episode 005 here and learn more about their new podcast on the website: newtoknittingpodcast.com If you want to learn more about Test Knitting, Kayleigh talks about Testing Knitting Bandana Rocks from The Crafty Jackalope: Vol. 01 ~ YARN book in episode 004.
Now that you have a couple hours of listening lined up, how about some projects!
This week we have been busy posting new kits up online! This season the trends are all about CHUNKY knits and BANDANA'S! So, I delivered!
I restocked the Free Love Slouchy hat knit kits. There are a ton of colors to choose from!
I also added new Bestie Bandana kits. There are 4 colorways to pick: cream, grey, blue and wine. Each kit comes with 2 skeins of Malabrigo Mecha and the pattern.
Love Wool Colorwork Cowl. This is a quick knit project with simple stranding colorwork. There are 5 colorways to choose from!
Big Seed Cowl. This is MEGA knitting! With two different color strands of chunky yarn held together, this cowl knits up quick on 25mm (50US) needles! Offered in 2 different colors: red/magenta & teal/moss.
If you do any holiday knitting, now is the time to start! Happy knitting everyone! xo

The Crafty Jackalope: Vol. 01 ~ YARN has arrived! ~ click here to comment August 17, 2016 14:19
It's here, it is finally here! My first 7 piece mini collection is complete! My posts have been sparse these last few months as I geared up for this day. This collection was a year in the making, and now I am happy to announce the launch of The Crafty Jackalope: Vol. 01 ~ YARN Digital copy and/or Print Copy.
You can purchase the Digital Copy or Pre-order a Print Copy/Digital Copy or purchase the single PDF patterns from the collection, the choice is yours ~
Each pattern explores the fibers, textures and shapes of the beautiful SweetGeorgia Yarns which inspired the collection. You can read all about this story, about how this collection was created and go into the mind of a designer in the pages of the 54 digital e book and or Print Copy.
Color Fade Shawl: knit with Party of Five Gradient Mini-Skein Set in color Hanami is one of my favorites, I can't wait to see the blended striping and/or Ombré combos you guys come up with!
Ribbon Rock Cowl: This one, is a favorite. It is simple yet fun and wearable. I love the striping and the textured stitches.
Portobello Cowl Version 2.0: This is an oldie but a goodie. SweetGeorgia Yarns elevates this cowl to a level of sophistication. The graphic stripes and punch of color can be bold or subtle, both work well!
Royal Flounce Shawl: This one is the most unique out of the collection. It features a lace 'Flounce' picked up after and on top of the lace. It is knit in sections which I really enjoy, I hope you will too!
Bandana Rocks: this bandana cowl is simply fun. It has cool techniques and plays with texture and shape! I love this bulky knit with bobbles & tassels!
I hope you enjoy this mini collection! I certainly loved designing it and knitting it! I invite you to explore the patterns and read more about the yarn used. I can't wait to see your versions!
